Now On Kickstarter, MURAL: The Women of The Black Panther Party, In West Oakland, California

Now seeking community support via Kickstarter for the first-ever public art installation honoring The Black Panther Party and the women that made it possible.

Buying a house is a dream and in 2000 Jilchristina Vest accomplished this in West Oakland, Ca with the help of her community and desire to live in a place rich with the history of Black excellence and activism. History unknown to most.  For 20 years she has wanted to say thank you to all those that helped and inspired this dream and that thank you will be in the form of a public art piece on her home.

Inspired by the #SayHerName movement, and as a coordinated response to continued violence and systematic oppression against Black, Indigenous, women and people of color (BIPOC), Jil has decided to assemble a team of former Black Panther Party members and Oakland artists to install a 2,000 square foot mural on the face of her Oakland, California home. A public art installation that will directly honor the rarely credited names and accomplishments of female Black Panther Party members, the unsung heroes who created and supported more than 60 community programs, clinics, and schools. Additionally, the large, colorful mural will help combat the invisibility of  Black Women.  This mural is for the community and will be a monument to those who fight for freedom vs. those that uphold and fight for the right to oppress.

Jilchristina Vest is excited to bring this project to Oakland, California, during a time of increasing social challenge, awakening and positive change. Crowdfunding for this project on Kickstarter, Jilchristina, will honor the heroes and legacies of the Black Panther Party with an unveiling later this year in October 2020.

For a limited time, support the mural on Kickstarter here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jilchristinavest/mural-the-women-of-the-black-panther-party

Funds raised from the campaign will be used to support the mural, including associated pre-production and design costs. For a limited time, support the project for as little as $10, and as much as $1000. And, for a pledge of $50 or more, unlock exclusive rewards, including a hand drawn educational coloring book featuring heroes on the mural.
