Our Sensory Table Announces Release of New COVID-19-Safe Table Designed To Help Improve The Wellbeing Of Seniors With Dementia
Research shows that playing video games offers promise in treating anxiety, depression, stress, and low mood as well as improving memory in seniors. In addition, reminiscence therapy, like that offered within many of the “Our Sensory Table” programs, has been designed to reduce anxiety and promote memories, specifically in seniors with dementia.

Bellingham, Washington – Feb 15th, 2021 – “Our Sensory Table” has made headlines this week for their innovative approach to helping senior citizens with Dementia. “Our Sensory Table”, designed to be used in nursing homes and hospitals, comes with a built-in activity tablet designed to help improve the wellbeing of seniors with dementia, while being easily sanitized for COVID-19 safety. The sensory program included within it comes with 50 unique activities designed to promote happiness in a way that research has shown improves the emotional and intellectual wellbeing of seniors with dementia.

“Our Sensory Table”, specifically designed for seniors with Dementia, has a range of activities that provide sensory stimulation, encourage artistic expression, promote social engagement, and offer reminiscence therapy – all in simple and easy play designed with dementia patients in mind. The four primary beneficial activities are essential to provide opportunities for social engagement, emotional connection, self-expression, and encouragement of the activation of memories.

During a recent interview, the company spokesperson for “Our Sensory Table” was quoted as saying, “The games are designed to have no right or wrong answers. It is simply an experience that allows the seniors to explore, create, and assert themselves without complications. The graphics, images, and audio are targeted toward seniors to stimulate memories with long-forgotten places, imagery, and sounds.”

He went on to say, “The range of activities provide sensory stimulation, encourage artistic expression, promote social engagement, and offer reminiscence therapy – all in simple and easy play designed with dementia patients in mind. When we think of dementia, we often focus on limitations, but seniors with the condition can still engage with and experience an array of stimuli with a positive outcome. “Our Sensory Table” offers visual, auditory, and memory-stimulating features to invoke positive emotion, active engagement, and encourage memories in a way that is exceptionally uncomplicated to use without frustration or stress.”

A study done at North Carolina State University, titled “Successful aging through digital games: Socioemotional differences between older adult gamers and non-gamers” has shown a consistently positive emotional effect of video games on the seniors who play them. The game players experience fewer negative emotions and less depression than seniors who do not regularly play video games.

Many of the traditional items used to promote engagement in dementia patients may not be safe for use by multiple seniors due to possible COVID-19 cross contamination. “Our Sensory Table” is designed with a smooth monitor and surfaces that can be safely, thoroughly, and easily wiped down with sanitizing products, including alcohol-based disinfectants, to avoid cross-contamination.
