Elevating Supply Chain Management to a New Level

“We did not build the Salesforce capabilities from scratch; instead, we brought our supply chain DNA to leverage what’s already been done on the enterprise side to elevate supply chain organizations to a whole new level” said Cy Smith, ketteQ CEO & President

There’s no doubt that the tumultuous events of the past year have led to the massive disruption of many key supply chains. The COVID-19 pandemic has shed a bright light on the criticality of planning for future upheavals by building flexibility, efficiency, and the latest tools and technologies into global supply chains. As companies move toward building more resilient supply chains, technologies that bolster core supply chain management functions are increasing in importance. Companies are recognizing the significance of implementing a robust strategy and leverage appropriate technologies, such as artificial intelligence, process automation, and deep analytics, to withstand future disruptions should they arise.

Built on a foundation of Salesforce with strengths in security, scalability, and configurability, ketteQ is dedicated to creating a new paradigm for supply chain planning and operations. ketteQ seamlessly integrates sales opportunities and order history with inventory, production capacity, and all other relevant information pertaining to finance and marketing for real-time visibility into the past, present, and future: a true 360-degree view of the entire supply chain for lightning-fast business planning, automation, and execution.

In an interview with the editorial team of CIO Applications, Cy Smith, CEO & President at ketteQ, shares how his company sets a new bar for supply chain planning and automation through an integrated sales and operations platform. Smith is an industry expert with 30 years of experience in the supply chain, telecommunications, data analytics, and finance space. His innovative spirit pushes him to think outside of the box, and he has made significant contributions in areas related to supply chain planning, investment management, workforce, and marketing automation. For Smith, it’s all about improving performance through analytics and automation.

Please provide us with a brief overview of ketteQ.

We are the only supply chain planning and automation platform built on Salesforcefor maximum visibility, agility, efficiency. The beauty of being built on Salesforce is that it’s a system known by over 80 percent of companies worldwide. Most companies think of Salesforce as a CRM platform, but it has also been recognized as the number one enterprise platform as a service by Gartner in the last several years. We did not build the Salesforce capabilities from scratch; instead, we brought our supply chain DNA to leverage what’s already been done on the enterprise side to elevate supply chain organizations to a whole new level. This brings a lot of different capabilities and features, specifically around integration and automation. We can easily integrate with ERP systems and leverage technology to automate and streamline finance, sales and marketing workflows associated with supply chains. Our platform leverages state-of-the-art technology to deliver predictive analytics in forecasting, replenishment, planning, inventory, and more.

Could you elaborate on the different functionalities of your platform and the benefits it delivers to your clients?

We have multiple forecasting algorithms that leverage not only demand history but also sales opportunities. Typically, most forecasting algorithms rely on time series analysis of demand history, but they fail to take into account the sales data that could actually contribute to a much better forecast. But being built on Salesforce, we’re able to do that algorithmically. With each and every 1 percent in forecast accuracy, companies are able to realize about a 0.2 percent improvement in revenues and profitability. ketteQ makes this possible by leveraging additional data signals or data sources in the forecasting process.

The ketteQ platform also leverages intelligence from the marketing departments. By understanding the impact promotions and events may have on the forecasts, we can help supply chain organizations align better with what’s happening on the sales and the marketing side.

We also deliver an opportunity to create revenue forecasts based on time-varying prices. As companies change or update prices, we can measure the impact to provide them with a better forecast. Our solution dives deep into the item- or category- level to streamline and improve planning decisions, especially around inventory stocking, on a real-time basis. This brings a level of agility to companies they typically wouldn’t have while planning on just a monthly or a quarterly basis. ketteQ even helps with improved and tailored inventory allocation to specific stores or other channels. The company also provides clients with proactive alerts to highlight potential issues and gaps in supply chains.

Could you cite an instance where you helped your client overcome major challenges with your system?

One of our customers, Parts Town, had a fairly decent model for their demand and replenishment planning, which they had developed internally on Excel. But as they continued to grow, both organically and through acquisitions, they realized that the complexity of the supply chain was beginning to exceed their capabilities on Excel spreadsheets. We helped the client by integrating their systems and data with their ERP system and automate their operations. Apart from automating and streamlining workflows, we helped the client reduce their average inventory carry costs by about 10 to 20 percent by leveraging multiple data sources and our sophisticated forecasting algorithms. ketteQ’s end-to-end supply chain planning and automation platform has enabled Parts Town to facilitate a truly agile supply chain capable of scaling to support their rapid business growth. With the systems fully integrated, Parts Town anticipates a reduction in inventory capital commitments by 15 percent while maintaining their industry-leading customer service levels.

Where do you see ketteQ headed in the next 12 to 18 months?

We have a deep understanding of advanced tools that will allow us to take the speed with which we can process data beyond what’s capable today. For instance, while using scenario-driven and what-if analysis, oftentimes, companies have to change a few variables and then let the systems run overnight to get answers on the outcomes of specific actions. With our scenario-driven capabilities, we deliver those answers much faster than other companies. But, in the next 12 to 18 months, we’ll be able to bring those scenario-based answers back in a matter of seconds or minutes, which will be unprecedented. Not only can we run these scenarios in a matter of seconds or minutes, but we’ll also be able to run tens of thousands of these scenarios overnight. This will enable us to bring back an answer pertaining to not only the outcome of certain actions but also the best course of action to follow. With our automation framework, we are going to take supply chain 4.0 to supply chain 5.0 and beyond, which will propel us toward the self-driving enterprise that doesn’t exist today.
