Tradition redefined – What was once perceived as a small initiative in traditional health practices, IVAC today grown into a full fledged dynamic global healthcare centre for Ayurveda catering to people in 55 countries.

Few prominent institutions in India have made strides in the global arena. While many giants in the IT/BT have carved a niche for themselves, health sciences, Yoga and Ayurveda have caught the imagination of the West thanks to their promoters and propagandists who assiduously pursued these practices as a way of life and good health.

One such institution which made a landmark in health sciences is the Indus Valley Ayurvedic Centre (IVAC) which is undeniably the proud possession of the heritage city – Mysore.  Indus Valley Ayurvedic Centre was founded with a vision to promote the treasures of 5,000 years old ancient wisdom of Ayurveda. The centre is in the forefront spreading advantages and benefits of Ayurvedic medicinal practices to the modern society.

What was once perceived as a small initiative in traditional health practices, today IVAC has transformed into a dynamic global healthcare centre and a training centre. Its services are reaching out to clients in over 55 countries. With a dedicated team of doctors and therapists, the centre has helped thousands of people tread the path of holistic health. Located in picturesque setting at the foot of Chamundi Hills in Mysore, IVAC is certified as an Ayurvedic Medical Centre which has been appreciated and honored by awards like WASME, Pevonia and Asia Spa Awards 2008 for its exceptional Ayurvedic treatments and therapies.

IVAC is spread over 25 acres of lush greenery with 50 bedded (resort) medical centre providing healthcare, wellness and fitness. The residential ambience can be matched with any high end resorts of international standards. IVAC is well equipped with 7 treatment rooms, yoga hall (indoor and outdoor), swimming pool and a tennis court.

The centre now plans to expand globally making Ayurveda as an Indian brand of spa. Ayurvedic therapies address various chronic as well as acute health issues such as obesity, anorexia, allergies, eczema, hypertension, diabetes, stroke, arthritis, back pain and cardio vascular diseases.

Ayurveda has excellent therapies to prevent, manage and cure many of the IT related health issues such as neck pain, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, eye problems, migraine, impotency, ovarian failure, attention deficit syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome and stress.

IVAC has pioneered services such as therapeutic Ayurvedic massages, herbal steam treatments, synchronized revitalizing massages, detoxification programs, weight loss packages, rejuvenation packages, weekend stress management packages, Yoga, diet and nutrition counseling. To create awareness educational and health seminars and conferences are also conducted periodically.

Incidentally, IVAC is the only Ayurveda retreat affiliated with Dial An Exchange (a Hong Kong based timeshare exchange company). Indus Valley treats around 1000 in-patients (two weeks average stay) per year. It also treats about 3000 out-patients each year. While 70 per cent of its guests/in-patients are from abroad, majority comes from the UK followed by countries like the US and Japan.

IVAC’s desired objective is to bring Ayurveda to the forefront of modern medicine. Various concepts of Ayurveda are being analyzed and understood with the help of modern science and new ideas through instrumentations are being developed to deliver and enhance the potential of Ayurvedic treatments.

“Eat food as medicine, not medicine as food” is the driving theme of IVAC which provides simple nutritious healing vegetarian food. According to Ayurveda one should eat all the six rasas (taste). The diet is tailor-made to suit every individual’s health condition. Chefs and doctors work in coordination to provide most appropriate diet during one’s stay at the centre.

The centre also offers full range of Yoga therapies through highly qualified teachers. Many clinical researches world over have proved the benefits of Yoga and Meditation. It is now well known and a fact that Yoga and Meditation combined with Ayurvedic diet could halt and reverse even over 90 per cent blocked coronary arteries. Yoga, Meditation combined with Ayurvedic lifestyle is almost a panacea for a host of diseases where modern medicine or other alternative systems do not offer satisfactory relief or cure without significant side effects.

Indus Valley Foundation (IVF)

IVF was founded as a non-profit organization to train and empower rural and tribal youth who are school dropouts to wellness industry. The foundation has pioneered a training program spread over 12 months, which includes 6 months of internship with certification. IVF has trained hundreds of such youth and placed them in various spas, resorts and wellness centres across India and abroad. As part of this training program, the students undergo intensive training in communication skills in English and personality development along with basic computer skills.

“Our program has been extremely successful through standardization and adoption of appropriate technologies. We now intend to expand our training program across India and plan to offer online training program with certification. We have trained over 500 therapists which provided them gainful employment in the wellness industry,” says, Shibashis Chakraborty, Senior Vice President at IVAC.
