Is it safe to visit the Met Museum?

Visiting the Met Museum in New York is safe, provided that visitors follow the health and safety guidelines. Matthew Keezer recommends that travelers prospecting a trip to the Met Museum observe social distancing, face covering, temperature check, and hand sanitization. However, visitors coming to the Mets from outside of New York, are be required to complete the online Travel Health Form. Should their temperature also read above 100.4 degrees, the Museum authorities would ask them to visit another day. 

When to visit

The museum building is open between 10:00 am to 5:30 pm from Sunday-Thursday. On weekends, Friday and Saturday, it is open to visitors between 10:00 am and 9:00 pm. However, visitors are not allowed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and the first Monday in May; these days are exceptions. 

It is wiser to visit the Museum on weekdays as the large number of crowds that come in on weekends can make a trip less adventurous. 

Preparing your trip to the Met Museum

The Met Museum is an enormous site. A typical 2-3 hours of the visit can be insufficient to consume its contents, divided among 17 curatorial departments.
