The book shares the experiences of people who have been fostering children for over 46 years and also have been featured in the media.

In today’s society, because of the escalation of violence and immigration, so many more children need what a family has to offer. This has caused an increase in foster carers. To help people on the edge of becoming one, Jim Bryans, whose foster caring family helped kids for over 46 years, has released a new book that chronicles their experiences for the benefit of others. The book ‘‘So you think you want to Foster’ discusses how families open their home and their hearts to foster children while discussing topics that other families tend to ignore.

The family has fostered dozens of children, providing them with a loving and safe environment. This has gotten them to be featured on several TV shows and media outlets for their outstanding work in the foster care system. On several occasions, they took part in TV programs, such as, ‘SEE HEAR.’ and ‘Family Affairs, as well as numerous podcasts on YouTube and radio.

Through their story, readers will get a glimpse into the challenges and joys of fostering children. The book explores the family’s experiences with children of different personalities, and the emotional impact that fostering can have on everyone involved. It also highlighted the negative stigma attached to it and how it can take a toll on the foster family when children bring their baggage with them.

Speaking on occasion, the author of the book said, “With my book, I’m trying to help foster families understand what they are planning to get into. They will learn how to be kind and caring for these poor little children. I also deal with sensitive topics that are brushed under the carpet, so the kids who bring their baggage quite often, the distress of the carers and their children. For anyone going into fostering, I can’t stress the importance of being vigilant enough. I remember once a child went around the campsite telling everyone that my family had sexually abused our previous twelve-year-old foster daughter, and my 14-year-old kid made her pregnant, leading to her getting an abortion. This caused us a lot of pain mentally and emotionally. With my experiences, parents can get a lot of insight, and I felt that I had a story that needed to be told, that’s why I wrote my book; ‘So you think you want to Foster.'”

The book is an excellent resource for families who are considering fostering or adoption.

About the Author: Jim Bryans

At the age of four, because of the Easter bombings in May 1941, the author’s family was bombed out of their beautiful home and evacuated to a farm thirty miles north of Belfast, Northern Ireland. A year or so later, they returned and lived in a very deprived area in the city. His father, an old soldier, was an alcoholic who smoked in the region of a thousand cigarettes a week, so the cupboards were bare, and family life broke down. His mother had little or no money for food or even necessary items. This made him become something of a problem child, and he got convicted of theft for stealing food. They put him in the care of an extremely tough children’s home until the age of sixteen. Because of the problems in his early life, he never did smoke or drink, and at the age of twenty-six, he married and subsequently went into fostering and did it for many years along with his wife and six children. They finally retired over forty-five years later.
